Meet my new friend Jack. Jack (not his real name) is an ICE detainee for the past six months at the Greene County Jail. He was living and working in a northern state for the past four years where he has a brother and sister who are citizens. Jack was arrested by ICE for overstaying his visa. He is from a country in Africa originally. He has an attorney working on his case, but he has not been told when he may have a court hearing to resolve his immigration status. Abide in Love has provided Jack with a local pen pal (for texting), and will be attempting to help him as needed. I was able to visit and have prayer with him today.
As it turned out, Jack is a devoted Christian, and one of his pastors in his home country is a good friend of my wife and me. When our mutual friend was studying at a seminary in Virginia, my wife, Dr. Marilyn Nelson, was one of his professors. After finishing his doctorate, he returned to his home country to be the headmaster of a Christian school. He will be joining us from Africa in praying for Jack and for justice and mercy to be experienced in his case.
